Cirq du Soleil “Totem” has arrived in Atlanta and set up at Atlantic Station. Like every Cirq du Soleil, this show is packed with plenty of “I can’t believe that” moments…from spinning to flying and everything in between, Totem will wow you especially if you’ve never seen a Cirq du Soleil performance.
TOTEM traces the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly. The characters evolve on a stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations.
There really aren’t any bad seats under the Grand Chapiteau but just know in advance that the seats are very close together. I sat in section 200 and prefer the raised view which gives you a better perspective of what’s happening.

I love Tybee Island…less than a 4 hour drive south of Atlanta to Savannah, turn right and over the bridge to the peace and tranquility that is Tybee Island. There are your dock side restaurants that offer pretty good food but an even tastier view of the sunset and then there are great restaurants that offer great views. North Beach Bar and Grill is one of them.
Situated on the North end of the island across from the Tybee lighthouse is North Beach Bar and Grill.
Chef “Big George” known throughout Tybee for his fabulous down home cooking is right at home at North Beach Bar and Grill and his influences are evident based on the absolutely delicious food that comes out of the kitchen.
A truly pleasant atmosphere inside with colorful walls and little twinkling lights above the bar, we ordered drinks and sat down to begin a sampling of the menu. From perfectly prepared crispy duck breast, marinated calamari with seaweed salad, slightly seared fresh tuna steaks, plump fresh crab cakes, fresh mussels and fresh cast iron seared scallops with a wild mushroom-bacon demi, everything wow’d us in taste and presentation. Entrees included a succulent Mahi-Mahi with roasted red pepper mashed potatoes, broccolini and lobster cream sauce and a mouth watering braised lamb shank with orange-cranberry couscous and fig-apricot reduction! Our server Travis was equally as impressive who continually made sure we had everything we needed and were enjoying ourselves. We were!
I Especially liked the fact that the restaurant is “green” which further helps preserve Tybee and the surrounding environment. The Saturday night we were there live music filled the patio which added to the great island vibe.
Tom Sullivan is a Television Host and Corporate Emcee based in Atlanta Georgia. Tom annually hosts Taste of Atlanta “Chef’s Table” where he shares his love of food with local Chef’s.
I was still in High School but spent all the time I could listening to radio. I dreamed of one day working at my favorite radio Station WQXI. “Quixie n Dixie” was a powerhouse known around the Country as one of the best in the business. Under the direction of General Manager Jerry Blum, WQXI AM and FM featured The Gary McKee morning show. I’d wake up every morning listening to Gary, Willis, and Yetta. I remember calling Gary on the request line and he let me do the station I.D. (which I still have on tape!)
This nearly 2 hour tape is a composite of my cassette tapes created before I was hired and a few breaks referring to “The Quixie Quacker” making an appearance by J.J. Jackson. Late 1970’s. Tape features WQXI FM (94-Q as well.) Breaks from Gary McKee Morning Show, Willis the Guard, “Birthday Monster!”, J.J. Jackson, Barry Chase and Scott Woodside, Kelly McCoy, Night Train Lane, Chris Morgan, Dain Schult “the silver haired man of rock n’roll”, Dennis Winslow, Russ Davis, Buddy Baron, Brenda Miller, Gary Lee Corry, Lee Caffee, Gary Hamilton, Coyote McCloud, Randall Hinton, David Hull, Randy Blake, Yetta Levitt, Chris Bailey, Rhett Walker and a couple more. (Yes I won a lot of prizes before I worked at WQXI and that’s one reason they said they hired me!) Also a clip of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson speaking with Tim Conway on a movie filmed in Atlanta.
During my senior year I visited the radio station and interviewed Ike Newkirk for a school project. Walking into the radio station was an amazing feeling especially going “behind the scenes”. I inquired about the station mascot “The Quixie Quacker” and Ike told me “we have all the Quackers we need.” Six months later I got a call from WQXI asking me if I was still interested in being the station mascot. The rest is history as I joined the Quixie family and entertained WQXI and 94-Q listeners for 11 years while working part time on air. It was on air personality Kelly McCoy who taught me all about radio giving me my first chance to actually touch a control board! I went on the air for the first time on WQXI AM from midnight to 6 a.m. on Christmas Eve in 1978. I was able to say the i.d. once an hour. I’ll always remember how nervous I was! (By 3 a.m. I was playing my own album cuts! What a pro, already breaking format my first day on the air!!)
I ran the board for 94-Q (WQXI FM) playing the Scott Shannon Countdown show on vinyl no less! The jock coming in at 10 a.m. that Sunday was late so I phoned program director Jim Morrison who gave me the OK to do a couple of breaks. (Still have that tape!) Then one cold winter night the night jock Karen Harrison couldn’t make it in because her driveway was iced over so Jim asked me if I wanted to work and I immediately felt so nervous but went in and opened the mic and began my FM career. (I remember Gary McKee and the entire morning show coming in and giving me props for sounding good but surprised to see the station mascot on the air!)
Once the radio station saw how motivated I was to be their mascot, they invested $1,500 for a duck costume that I helped design.
I am blessed to have gotten my “webbed” foot in the door of WQXI and grateful to all of those who encouraged me.
