The Hubbard House, a beautiful home built in 1894 in quaint, historic downtown Woodstock is the home sweet home to Century House Tavern. Situated by the railroad tracks under towering oak trees, diners will indulge in cuisine that once graced the tables of Bacchanalia and all lovingly prepared by new Executive Chef Daniel Porubiansky. On a recent visit with several friends, our table outside was just as perfect as the staff that served us. Our meal consisted of all fresh, and many local ingredients. Tuna Tartare and Butternut Squash Soup was as soft and succulent as a cotton candy cloud. It paired wonderfully with a glass of Prosecco. House made Duck Ham and Foie Gras with a red wine pear puree (delicious!) and glazed Ellijay apples were made for each other.
Seared Scallops with parsnip puree, crispy parsnip and truffle vinaigrette were like lollipop pillows. Perfectly prepared every bite reminded me of my favorite vacation by the sea.
Braised Angus Short Rib with confit fingerling potatoes and pickled carrots were a tasty jubilee of sweetness, tartness and texture. Music to my mouth!
Chef Daniel said his grandmothers recipe for dessert was over 25 years in the making and I am so grateful he shared it with us. Creme Caramel, preserved figs, candied orange zest were beyond perfect. This was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had.
Chef Daniel Porubiansky and C.H.T. partner Jon Hayano. Also thank you to manager Alex Shumila who’s taste in wines is spot on. Thank you for always making me feel like I’m home when dining at Century House Tavern.
